Describing the development of small and medium industries by creating women entrepreneurs, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the financial improvement of women will improve the family and society.
If the women can improve financially, Bangladesh will improve rapidly. He made the remarks while addressing the inaugural session of National SME Fair-2012 in Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the city on Wednesday. Sheikh Hasina said that 90 percent of the industries are involved in small and medium industries in the country, so SME sector is important to achieve national development targets. SME sector contribution in GDP is around 25 percent.Referring to the increase in the export of Bangladeshi goods, the trade deficit with the different countries has decreased, he said, currently the country's export earnings have reached about 35 billion dollars. The Prime Minister said that 100 economic zones are being set up in the country to encourage domestic and foreign investment. The Prime Minister congratulated the participants of the National SME Entrepreneur Award 2012 and the participants of the fair and said that the importance of SME as the driving force of the global economy is immense. Poverty reduction is possible through the development of SME sector for balanced development of Bangladesh. With the SME being the most laborious and short-term capitalist sector, this sector creates more jobs for small capital investment.
