Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that in 1996, to take advantage of the harmful effects of saline water, we took the project to excavate the Gorai river.
We could not come to power in 2001. When the BNP came to power, the project to stop the excavation of the Gorai river was stopped. In the last five years in the water resources sector, we have implemented the project of Tk 150 crore.
He said this at a function organized at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center on the occasion of World Water Day on Tuesday.
Referring to various steps taken by the government to provide safe water for all, the Prime Minister said, we have formulated the National Water Policy, 1999 and have formulated Bangladesh Water Act 2013. Already 64 lakh hectares of land has been brought under flood control areas.
