BNP Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, after 47 years, we are celebrating Independence Day in a very heavy heart.
The government has destroyed the consciousness that the liberation war has taken. When the Awami League comes to power, the rights of the people are thwarted.
He said this while inaugurating the Independence Rally at BNP's Naya Paltan office on Tuesday noon.
Mirza Fakhrul said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will have to step down for a free, fair and neutral national election. The parliament will have to be broken. Otherwise, there will be a strong movement.
He also said that this government has destroyed the consciousness of freedom and liberation war to establish one-party rule. People of this country want peace, want to get their democratic rights back. This struggle will continue.
Regarding the release of Khaleda Zia, she said, as well as the party workers and all the people of the country will have to come down the road to set up the rights of the people by liberating Begum Zia.
