The Appellate Division has allowed the State and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to appeal against the bail of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in connection with the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.

It has also been instructed to submit an appeal summons to the prosecutor and the ACC in two weeks and the defendants within the next two weeks. The date of the appeal was fixed on May 8. At the same time, the High Court gave a stay on the bail granted to the Appellate Division.

Under the leadership of the Chief Justice on Monday (March 19th), the bench of the four judges of the Appellate Division passed the order giving permission to the state and the ACC to live-to-appeal.

After the order, Khaleda Zia's three lawyers Khandker Mahbub Hossain, Moudud Ahmed and Zainul Abedin said that they have never seen such an order before.

Zainul Abedin said, "It is forced to say something unprecedented. It is unbearable. We're shocked.

On March 12, the High Court granted bail to Khaleda Zia for four months. After the High Court stayed the four-month bail, the petition was filed in the Appellate Division on 13 March and the ACC and the ACC.
