Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman said there is nothing more expensive than blood in the world. Blood and life are one and the same and the sense of blood donation is universal.
Referring to this consciousness as non-communal, she said that blood loans will never be repaid. So the values of donors will need to be expanded further.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said this while speaking as the chief guest on the occasion of donating blood donors organized by the Quantum Foundation in the National Press Club of the capital.
Madam Nahar al-Bukhari, Chief Coordinator of Quantum Voluntary Blood Donation Program presided over the function as the special guest on the occasion. Zaheeruddin Ahmad praised this great work of blood donors.
On behalf of the regular voluntary donors, Motahar Chowdhury expressed his feelings about Rimki and regular blood transfusions, Sumaiyya Akter Symi, who was suffering from Thalassemia.
232 voluntary donors who donated at least 10 and 25 voluntary donations were honored with ID cards, certificates and crests.
It is reported that in Bangladesh every year about 7 lakh bags of blood is needed. Of these 25-30 percent comes voluntarily. 50-55 percent comes from patient's relatives. The remaining 20-25 percent comes from professional blood sellers. All this demand of blood should be done voluntarily - the Quantum Foundation is working on that goal.
