Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon said the present government has taken various initiatives for the disabled.
He said that besides honoring persons with disabilities as special people of the society, they are called 'Golden citizens of the country'.
On this morning, Rashed Khan Menon said this while addressing the inauguration of the Golden Citizen Cards distribution program for the people of the country's welfare of micro-credit and special needs at Ward No. 4 Community Center of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
The minister said, the microfinance has brought the Nobel Prize in our country, but it is known to all of us how this loan exploited the common people of our country. There has been a lot of talk about this. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told micro-credit to the business of interest-takers. But in the manner in which the present government is providing interestless loans to the general public, there is no relation between loans with interest.
Menon said that the NGOs should understand the difference between government debt and there is no benefit for the people through micro-credit. Rather, the current government's interest-free micro-debt system has been able to cut the minds of the common people.
He said many people think that the small debt system Muhammad Yunus has made it but it is not true. The small loan system was first introduced in 1974 by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. That's why Bangabandhu is the first proponent of micro-debt.
