Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain has announced that Dhaka will be developed as the capital of developed countries by the next 2041.
The minister said this while addressing the inaugural session of 'World Bank Meeting on Towards Great Dhaka' organized by the World Bank Group in a city hotel on Wednesday in a speech titled "Commitment to Transforming Dhaka" as the chief guest.He said that Dhaka will be developed as a capital of the middle income country by 2021 and the capital of developed countries between 2041.The meeting was attended by World Bank's Country Director Kimio Fan, representative of South Asian chief economist Martin Ramasaha, representatives of public and private development organizations.The minister highlighted the importance of Dhaka, while the volume of Dhaka is only 1 percent of the size of Bangladesh, but the city is providing 36 percent of the GDP of the country and 44 percent of the employment generation. These statistics show the economic significance of Dhaka.The minister said, besides the administrative and political importance in the formation of the golden Bengal of the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Dhaka has one of the main roles.
