Bangladesh and Sri Lanka agreed to enter into a free trade agreement within this year.
After formal talks on Friday between Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the two countries reached the conclusion.During the briefing of the two leaders' formal meeting, Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque said, "President Sirisena and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina unanimously reached the conclusion of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by 2017".The Foreign Secretary said, as soon as possible, the two countries decided to complete negotiations and review to make a free trade agreement. Which will be the first FTA contract of Bangladesh with any country.Earlier, in the presence of both leaders, signing a memorandum of understanding and an agreement on economy, agriculture, shipping industry, higher education, information, technology and media, as part of the mutual cooperation between the brothers and the two countries.
