The World Heritage Committee of UNESCO has taken objection to the construction of Rampal power plant, said the government's foreign ministry.
The information was released on Thursday in a press release of the ministry.The Sundarbans has now been excluded from the risky list among the natural phenomena of UNESCO's World Heritage Site, the Foreign Ministry has said.Environmentalists have been objecting to the construction of coal-based power plant at Rampal in Bagerhat, adjacent to the largest mangrove forest in the world.In fact, UNESCO announced earlier that the construction of power plant at Rampal would bring disaster to the Sundarbans. But the World Heritage Committee in the 41st session held in Karako, Poland, has finalized this decision.
