The Commerce Ministry has decided to import 5 million metric tonnes of crude salt to keep the salt supply and prices normal in the country.
Wednesday, Senior Information Officer of the Ministry of Commerce Abdul Latif Bakshi said that the decision has been taken because the production of salt in the country is less than the target.After completing the formalities, salt will be collected in a few days. The SRO will be issued soon, said Abdul Latif Bakshi.
He said that the government has taken this step in the interest of the consumer so that due to lack of supply or availability of edible salt. The importer appointed by the government will be able to import this salt. The salt should be marketed by ensuring the proper quality of iodized edible salt. In the same way last year, the government has imported 2.65 million metric tons of crude salt in two phases.
