Recommendations for strengthening the safety of passenger services in Eid

This recommendation was made at a meeting of the committee held at the National Parliament House on Wednesday. Committee chairman retired Major Rafiqul Islam presided over Bir Uttam meeting.It was the 43rd meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Shipping of the 10th Parliament. Committee member Talukder Abdul Khalek, Md. Nurul Islam Sujon, Md. Anwarul Azim (Anner) took part in the meeting.In the meeting, detailed discussions about the activities of the Chittagong Port Authority and the Mongla Port Authority are discussed.It was informed in the meeting that 90 percent of the trade of Bangladesh is dependent on the sea. And 92 percent of the import and export of sea-based trade is operated through the port of Chittagong. At present, the import-export volume of the country stands at US $ 70 billion. It has been mentioned that this achievement has been achieved as a result of the anchorage of more than 3,000 marine vessels in Chittagong port.A meeting was also held to set up terminal for setting up single point mooring, land base LNG terminals, floating storage reassification unit (FSRU) for the unloading of coal-based thermal power plant in Matarbari, Kutubdia and Maheshkhali areas and for shipping 14-meter draft ships.
