The country's rice stocks are now at the lowest level. So the government is importing more than two lakh tonnes of rice to meet food shortage.
The ministry of finance has sent two proposals to the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement for approval. The proposal will be presented in the meeting on Wednesday, Ministry sources said.According to the food situation report on 25th May, the rice stocks amounted to two lakh 24 thousand tonnes. Calling the stock of rice as a risky stage, the concerned people said there was no rice stock at the lowest level in the past. So, the government has taken an initiative to import more 2.5 lakh tonnes of rice from Vietnamese at a cost of 909.55 million taka to raise the reserves. 50,000 tons of boiled rice in 250,000 tons The remaining two million tons of asp rice are imported.Meanwhile, the government has taken an initiative to import one lakh tonnes of rice through two separate international quotations. Of this, 50 thousand tonnes are common and the remaining 50 thousand tons of onion rice. For this, the total expenditure will be 346 crore 62 lakh 69 thousand taka. The Food Ministry's proposal will be presented in the next meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement for approval.
