The highest gross domestic product (GDP) growth in Bangladesh's history was during the rule of independence architect Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The country's first budget was given in the year 1972-73. In 1974, the country's GDP per capita was 9.7 percent in 7.7 percent. Then there was no GDP growth in any other year. Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith has mentioned these words in the proposed budget speech in fiscal year 2017-18 in the National Parliament.
In the year 1972-73 to 2017-18, the size of national budget has increased almost 500 times in the country. After the independence of the country, the first budget was announced in 1972-73 fiscal year. Finance minister Tajuddin Ahmed, the finance minister of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, announced the first budget of Taka 786 crore. After 46 years, the government led by Sheikh Hasina announced the budget of Tk 4,266 crore. Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics has released 7.44 percent growth this year.
