Government will import 6 million metric tons of rice to meet the deficit

The government has already planned to import 6 million metric tons of rice from abroad to meet the deficit due to the crop loss due to the sudden floods in areas.Food Minister Advocate Kamrur Islam said this at a question session in the Parliament session on Monday.In response to the question of Golam Rabbani, he also said that according to the plan, the government has already called international tenders for importing 3 million metric tons of rice. In addition to Vietnam, a delegation from Vietnam is touring Bangladesh to sign a MoU for importing rice at the G-2G level.He said the present government is committed to ensure food security for all the people of the country. For this purpose, rice has been distributed among the 50 million beneficiaries at the rate of 10 taka for the 5 months of the work-force of the food-friendly program in the current fiscal year. Apart from this, flour sales are being conducted in the Metropolitan, Divisional and District Town OMS sector. On the other hand, food grains are being supplied in the fields of VGD, VGF, GR etc. to meet food demand.Responding to the question of government MP Habibur Rahman Mollah.Food Minister said that ''there is no possibility of food shortage due to sudden flooding in the Haorancha but also due to food loss of crops''.
