Food Minister Quamrul Islam said-''there is no danger of a shortage of rice in the haor area but there is no scarcity of food in the country''.
He said that the government has taken initiatives to import essential food grains from abroad as well as collecting rice inside the country.In reply to the question of the government's MP Habibur Rahman Mollah in the Question Hour on Monday, the Food Minister said this.Responding to a question from Golam Rabbani, the minister said the country's current rice is slightly lower than last year.The government plans to import 6 million tonnes of rice from abroad to meet the shortage of crops and to keep the reserves satisfactory due to the flood in region. Of this, international tender has been invited for importing 3 lakh tonnes of rice. In addition, a delegation from Vietnam is visiting Bangladesh to sign the MoU for the import of rice at the Zituji level with Vietnam.
