Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today called upon the people to come forward to protect nature's balance.
Government has been implementing various projects to protect the world's largest mangrove forest Sundarbans.The Prime Minister said-''when she was the Prime Minister in 1997, the area of the Sundarbans was declared as World Heritage. He said, the government should take steps to improve the development of the country. It is always a matter of concern that the Sundarbans should not be harmed in any way''.The Prime Minister said this while addressing the chief guest at a function organized at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center, Environment and Forests Ministry organized the World Environment Day and National Tree Plantation Campaign and the Environment Fair-2017.The Prime Minister said that the Sundarbans is not only a tradition but it is due to this Sundarbans but Bangladesh remains. We have taken the initiative to create artificial mangrove so that this Sundarbans increases further and has already been ordered to expand its entire coastal region. We have taken several steps to protect the biological diversity of the Sundarbans and smart petrol arrangements have been taken to curb forest crime.She said the carbon survey has already been completed. Alternative employment opportunities have been created for the life and livelihood of the local population dependent on the Sundarbans. There has been a co-management system introduced and the environmental tourism sector has been developed.
