The United Nations has announced the names of members of the three-member investigation mission to investigate allegations of murder, rape and torture against the country's army on Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar's Rakhine state.
The independent commission was announced on Tuesday.The United Nations Human Rights Council said in a statement that India's Supreme Court lawyer Indira Jaising was made the head of the international investigation mission. The other two members of the mission are Sri Lankan human rights activist Radhika Kumarsami and Australian rights activist Christopher Sido.Last year,several policemen were killed in Myanmar's separatist attacks in Maungru. The country's army, called the Purification Campaign in Rakhine state, has been killed. About 75 thousand Rohingya flee to Bangladesh in the face of the killing and torture of soldiers. The allegation was that, during the campaign in the state, the Rohingya women were gang raped by the army. The investigation committee was sent to the United Nations Human Rights Commission in this incident. The committee accuses the army of ethnic cleansing against the army. But last week the Myanmar government rejected the report saying these allegations are not true.The new United Nations investigation team will investigate the allegations of the Rohingyas and the claims of the government. The United Nations urged the Myanmar government to provide free access and cooperation to Rakhine Committee members.
