The government has taken an initiative to renew the contract for importation of muriate-of-potash (MOP) fertilizer by Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) through a state-level contract from Russia.
Belarus and Canada in the next fiscal year 2017-2018. About three and a half million tonnes of MOP fertilizer will be imported from three countries.According to the source, the demand for various types of chemical fertilizers is determined in the beginning of the year by field studies of the Department of Agricultural Extension. In the next fiscal year 2017-2018, the annual demand of MOP fertilizers in Bangladesh is estimated at 850,000 tonnes. Fertilizer is not produced in Bangladesh. Generally, the demand for fertilizers of Bangladeshi farmers is met by importing through state-level importers and through BADC state contract.
