The government has taken an initiative to set up a second floating LNG terminal with 500 mmcf capacity in Maheshkhali in Cox's Bazar under the increase of power and energy supply (special provisions) Act-2010 to meet the energy shortage.
For this, the employer will pay $ 1.55 billion every year for a period of 15 years. The LNG terminal will set up Summit Corporation Limited on Build on Operate (BOOT) basis.According to the Energy and Mineral Resources Department, natural gas is being used extensively in power generation, fertilizer factories, industrial establishments, commercial establishments, homes and vehicles as primary energy for the country.
