Hanif came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion marking the Homecoming Day of Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina organised by Jatiya Sramik League at the Jatiya Press Club.
“BNP leaders and activists have lost their confidence in the party as its leaders took wrong political decisions, resorted to anti-people politics and corruption. The time has come for Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman to quit their party leadership to save the country,” he said.Urging the BNP leaders and activists to express no-confidence in party chairperson Khaleda Zia and its senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman, he said force them to quit the party leadership and contribute to the country’s development standing beside people.Chaired by Jatiya Sramik League President Shukkur Mahmud, the programme, was addressed, among others, by Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Awami League labour affairs secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj.Taking a swipe at the Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) for its recent study report over the three city corporations’ elections, he said “There’s a section of civil society members who always remain busy criticising the government….country’s development cannot be impeded by creating controversies over elections.”
