BNP’s student body Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Monday extended its full support to student strike in all educational institutions on Tuesday called by Bangladesh Chhatra Union protesting Sunday’s police actions against the protesters of assaults on women on Pahela Baishakh on the Dhaka University campus, reported UNB.
In a statement, JCD president Rajib Ahasn and general secretary Akramul Hasan extended the support to the strike.
“Since its foundation, Chhatra Dal always extended its wholehearted support to student’s logical demands, including ensuring academic atmosphere in all educational institutions. Besides, it led the movement for restoration of democracy in the country by freeing it from the grasp of autocrat,” the JCD leaders said.
They said the student community is surprised the way police attacked Chhatra Union activists when they went to lay a siege to the DMP headquarters to press for their logical demand.
“Chhatra Dal has full support to justify the student strike called by Chhatra Union in all educational institutions in protest against police’s such heinous attitude,” the statement said.
Rajib and Akram also said JCD will always play an active role in protest against s.. assaults on female students and ensuring educational atmosphere and coexistence in the educational institutions.
On Sunday, about a hundred activists of Bangladesh Chhatra Union came under police attack near Officers Club on Shaheed Captain Mansur Ali Sarani as they tried to lay a siege to the DMP headquarters in protest against s.. harassments of women on the Dhaka University campus on April 14.
Chhatra Union president Hasan Tarek announced the strike at a press conference at the Dhaka University on Sunday afternoon protesting the police brutality.
A number of young men s.. assaulted some women at Suhrawardy Udyan gate near Dhaka University’s TSC on April 14, the first day of Bangla New Year.
