Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina congratulated Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, Rupa Asha Huq and Rushanara Ali as they won in the UK general election-2015 on Friday.
Tulip Siddiq, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s niece, contended the poll from Hampstead and Kilburn constituency for Labour Party.
She secured 23,977 votes – some 1,138 votes more than that of her nearest opponent Simon Marcus of Conservative Party, who got 22,839.
Returning Officer of Camden poll center announced the result at 5:00am local time.
Tulip’s mother Sheikh Rehana, her brother Rizwan Siddiq Boby, her sister Rupanthi, UK Awami League unit general secretly Sayed Faruk, and joint secretary Anwaruzzaman, among others, were present there during the announcement.
Rupa Asha Huq, who contended the poll for Labour Party, has been elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) from Ealing Central and Acton constituency.
Rupa won the poll by a narrow margin of only 274 votes from her nearest opponent Angie Bray of Conservative Party.
She secured 22,002 votes while Angie Bray got 21,728 votes.
Huq, a sociology lecturer at Kingston University, promised the voters to fight for Ealing Hospital’s A&E and maternity units, which are threatened with closure, despite the area having the third highest birth rate in London.
Besides, first Bangladeshi origin lawmaker in UK parliament Rushanara Ali reelected from Bangali-dominated East London constituency of Bethnal Green seat, defeating his Conservative Party with a huge margin.
Rushanara, who contended the poll for Labour Party, secured 61 percent-- 32,387 votes – some 24,317 votes more than that of her nearest opponent Matthew Smith of Conservative Party, who got 8,070.
