Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said that the number of newspapers had doubled during the current government`s tenure and it had crossed the thousand marks.
The Minister made the comment in a message congratulated the press on the occasion of "World Press Freedom Day".
In the message Inu said that the current government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was fully committed to press freedom and its policy regime had led to a "media boom" in the country.
Hasanul Haq Inu also said that the government had provided permission and logistical support to more than 25 television channels.
Besides, 15 FM radio channels were in operation apart from the government-owned Bangladesh Betar, he added.
