Barcelona are upbeat about the possibility of Lionel Messi taking the pitch Sunday for their La Liga encounter with Celta Vigo.
The team announced that Messi took part in light training Thursday after the swelling in his injured foot was reduced. He's expected to join the rest of the team for Friday's training session.
Messi was forced to miss a pair of Argentina's friendly matches after suffering the injury during Barcelona's 2-1 El Clasico win.
Argentina manager Gerardo Martino was hopeful Messi could suit up during the internationals, he said that the 27-year-old was suffering from a legitimate injury and struggled to get his boots on because of the swelling.
While Messi being held out for precautionary reasons shouldn't damage their chances against mid-table Celta Vigo, his absence may disrupt the dominant performances Barca have displayed of late.
His inclusion will likely guarantee another three points as Barcelona look to stretch their winning run to six matches in La Liga and maintain their lead atop the table.
